Music, Piano and Drumming Lesson Frequently Asked Questions
Is it difficult to learn to play an instrument?
Learning to play any instrument is a very rewarding experience. It can be a little tricky at times but with the right approach and effort, everyone is capable of progressing. Most of all, it's great fun!
Do I need to buy an instrument before I start lessons?
You don't need one before starting lessons at first. I recommend having a few 'taster' sessions to begin with, then looking at acquiring an instrument once you are happy you wish to pursue your studies.
How long will it take before I'm a really good player?
This is a very difficult question to answer precisely. Everyone progresses at different rates. Some people can make remarkable progress in a relatively short space of time. It depends on many factors, one of the most important of which is how much time (practise) you are willing to dedicate to learning.
Do I have a lesson every week?
Normally, yes. I've found over the many years I've been tutoring that a weekly lesson provides the best support and continuity for students, irrespective of the standard of playing. There is however, some flexibility on times for those that work shifts etc. (subject to my own availability of course).
Do you travel to students' own house to give lessons?
Yes I do, but travelling to pupils' own house is generally only available if the lesson is finished by around 3pm i.e. during the day. Occasionally an evening visit may be possible.
How much do lessons cost?
Please see my Tuition Prices/Packages page for full details.
